There has been a concrete effort to develop renewable energy, prominent being solar along with wind energy the use of batteries has increased. The role of batteries has increased all the more because of the emergence of electrical devices and mobile phones. In such situations the use of battery materials has an important role to play. In fact, each and every battery type requires a different variant of material. But among the various types of batteries the lithium ion battery seems to be the most prominent among the lot.

The types of batteries along with battery materials incorporated in them

Nickel cadmium

This battery type ceases to be the popular among the masses. Basically they are a combination of anodes of nickel hydroxide and cathodes of cadmium. Even potassium hydroxide might be needed as an electrolyte. The best part about these batteries is that they have low internal resistance and possess excellent conductivity. Even it is possible to recharge them fast. They are very efficient to be operating at a low temperature that is -20 degree Celsius.

The electrolyte along with separating material possess the ability to influence the various properties of the battery. The parameters like service life, overcharging capability and voltage conditions have a role. In fact, the separating material can be propylene or nylon and KOH, Noh, or LIOH could be the electrolyte.

Nickel metal hydride

Here nickel Hydroxide is part of the anode and in the cathode you have a different material hydride. Once again potassium hydroxide is the electrolyte. As compared to the nickel cadmium battery type this version has more energy density.

Lithium ion batteries

These are rated to be champions in the category of batteries. Basically a rechargeable type of battery where the cathode along with anode goes on to act as hosts for the lithium ions. These ions make a movement from the cathode to anode when charging and replicates a reverse motion during the phase of discharging. It is incorporated from an electrolyte that contains a certain type or organic solvent. On the other hand, the cathode along with anode of the batteries could be formed of various materials like lithium, cobalt, manganese which once again is going to depend upon the desired parameters.

Lead acid battery materials

This is an older version of rechargeable battery where you figure out sponge lead and lead peroxide in the form of cathodes and anodes respectively. Because of superior voltage power along with low cost it is used in power stations. This is going to call for a number of materials in terms of construction. Sponge lead, sulfuric acid and lead peroxide are the active battery materials used.

It might also need separators. Lead peroxide along with sponge lead is put to use as electrodes whereas sulfuric acid is required to be used as an electrolyte as the help of separators have to be sought. Basically they are termed to be thin sheets formed from porous rubber.
